Rich is a bit grumpy and Carola has “Flugscham”, as Carola has just flown back from a working trip to Switzerland, encountering a new terminology on signs around airport passport control. Both of them have a bit of a lengthy spat whether chapter 4 applies or not, attempting – probably without success – to make this rather convoluted issue less complicated. Rich puts forward the idea that everyone will need to channel their innter James Bond. But they also tackle the European Charter’s Chapter IV, titled Solidarity, and ask why social and economic rights contained in this chapter ended up being such a contentious issue for UK ministers in the UK’s recent debates about the withdrawal bill.
